The pantograph

A pantograph is a system that uses parallelograms to reproduce existing drawings, possibly downscaled or enlarged. With a first pen, the original drawing or engraving is followed. With a second pen, knife, grinding wheel, or other device, the drawing is reproduces onto another object. The system was already known by the ancient Greeks, but found an application in the production process of letter engravings.
